CAS Colours and Sketches Challenge #259 - Sketch

Wow, Sunday evening already, I can't believe how quickly this weekend has gone and I had a three day weekend. It's been lovely, I was able to take my boys up to Wisley Gardens on Friday with my Dad to see the butterflies. The boys had a great time spotting all of the different coloured butterflies flying around above them. Then when it got a little too hot in the hot house we went outside to enjoy a lovely picnic, spring is definitely on it's way. Some of the spring flowers are starting to open and there were several birds hopping about looking for food.

To try and use up some of the boys energy we took a walk around the gorgeous grounds, including the vegetable patches where they were asking Grandad lots of questions about what all of the different vegetables were. I think their favourite part, other than the butterflies, was the play park. In one corner there was an area set up to build dens, they had great fun trying to stand huge tree limbs up to make the walls. It was lovely to see them working together, each at one end carrying it to where they wanted it.

Today's card was inspired by all of the beautiful butterflies we saw on Friday, there were so many different colours. There were also some that looked exactly like Autumn leaves, perfect camouflage.  I decided to play along with the CAS Colour & Sketches Challenge this week, I have flipped the sketch round to be portrait as I created the tag first and it then didn't fit on a landscape card, whoops!

To create my butterfly I stamped the outline in Fresh Fig and then used my aqua painters to colour in the rest of the image using Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo and Marina Mist. I used very little water as if you apply too much onto Whisper White it can make the card stock bobble which ruins the effect. You can put as much water as you want on water colour card stock but you need to be careful when using normal Whisper White.

I punched the hole in the tag using the Watermelon punch from the Itty Bitty Fruit Punch set, I also used this to punch off the corners. For the striped element of the sketch I chose some of the striped paper from the Painted with Love speciality DSP. It's called speciality because it's a little bit special, on one side of each of the designs are some Gold elements. The Gold goes so nicely with the other colours on the DSP and I think fits in nicely on my card. To finish the card off I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line up my sentiment, this is one of the first tools I bought when I discovered Stampin' Up! about 5 years ago and it's still one of my most used.

What will you stamp? #154

Hello again, I've been so busy this week I can't quite believe it's almost the end of Wednesday already. It feels like there is so much to do and not quite enough time to do it all so I deliberately took some time out to create a quick card. I find it very stress relieving and is like therapy. I currently follow quite a few challenge blogs so I had various ideas going through my head for a card this week but when the What will you stamp? challenge appeared in my inbox I knew that I wanted to give it a go. This week they have invited you to play along with the wonderfully cute Party Pandas set.

I have to admit when I first saw this set in the sale-a-bration offering I wasn't too sure about it but as usual I then saw lots of designs popping up on Facebook and Pinterest and couldn't resit getting the set for myself!

Stampin' Up! Party Pandas

My card isn't quite what I envisaged when I first set out to create it but I am pleased with my little Panda. He's been coloured in with my Stampin' Blends including a small amount of light smokey slate around the edges to give him a bit of definition. To colour in the balloon I have used my dark and light pumpkin pie and then used the colour lifter to remove some of the lighter area to make the balloon look more rounded.

I hope you like this little cutie and would love it if you left me a comment below. You can find links to all of the supplies that I have used in the box below. Happy crafting!

Happy Wishes on a Sunday

Good morning all, I am currently sat relaxing in a hotel in the Meon valley, Craig surprised me by organising a lovely night away without the boys. It's been really nice spending time together without having to worry that we would have to get up early the next day to sort out the boys. We spent the day yesterday just looking round some shops and then a trip to the cinema to see Jumanji. If you haven't already seen it you should, it's very funny!

Today's card was inspired by a Facebook live that my upline did for team training in which she had used her embossing paste to add texture to the prickles on a hedgehogs back. It made me realise that I hadn't used my own embossing paste since I'd first bought it. It's nice to get supplies out that you haven't used in a while as they tend to get forgotten.

To start with I mixed a small amount of the paste on a clear block with one drop of Rose Red reinker, the more drops you add the more intense the colour.

Once I had mixed in the ink I then placed my mask over Whisper White cardstock and spread an even layer of the paste over the top. This paste is really quick drying so you should definitely wash all of your tools as soon as you have finished with them, otherwise you get left with a residue which is hard to remove.

Once removed you can see the lovely pattern created, this would look good plain white or with any colour mixed in, experiment and have fun!

As I had used some nice bright colours for my background I thought a black sentiment and base would work well and make the colours pop. Although I did add some extra colour to the sentiment by colouring in the flowers with my Stampin' Write markers. I also ran the tip of my Rose Red marker along the edge of the Whisper White cardstock as I felt it looked a bit out of place without it. Then to finish it off I added some leaves from the Touches of Nature elements.

I'm really pleased with the way today's card turned out. The stampset I have used is another Sale-a-bration freebie and if you wanted to buy all of the supplies to make this card then you'll earn the stamp set for FREE. If you didn't want to recreate this card but still wanted the stamp set you would just have to spend £90 (this is a level 2 freebie as there are so many stamps in it!) on any other supplies and the set is yours for free. Let me know below what you think of today's card. Happy crafting.
